Well, the puppies are all weaned from Mama and, while they still protest when she walks by, they are doing great! The weather has been beautiful and the puppies have thoroughly enjoyed their romps outside. Their older sister, Leah, loves to play with them and helps tire them out so I can take their pictures without them trying to leave the entire time. It's still a crazy adventure though, they think that they are being tortured by having to sit and get their pictures taken! The puppies are due for shots and de-worming on Friday and then they will ready to head to their new homes! I've had so much fun with them...I'm sad to see them go :(

So, even though I asked them not too, they grew again :) Those crazy little puppies! Their just like kids, they don't know when to stop growing and just stay little forever! Oh well, they actually just seem to be getting cuter these days anyway. It's so funny to hear their tiny little barks and to watch them tugging on each other (and Mama's!) ears. They growl when they hear the "big dogs" barking. It's a riot! There's nothing like a dachshund puppy to make the world seem right. So now they are 4 weeks old...Next up? FOOD!

I just love when these little guys (and gals!) open up those beautiful eyes of theirs! They are darling little ones and are growing and doing so well. We ended up with a little red girl this time around and she is so adorable! It's fun having the variety of colors! As usual, these little ones are being held and cuddled constantly by my kids. The youngest has been taught to sit and wait for a puppy on the couch near the kennel. She adores these babies...Just wait until their a bit more mobile :)

There were 4 little ones born to Sofia and Cody on 6-27-2011. They are doing fabulous! All are gaining weight nicely and their coats are so smooth and shiny! They are long haired dachshunds, as that is the only type of dogs that we breed, but their coats do start out smooth. Mama is doing very well and taking good care of her new babies. Big sister Leah is very bummed out that Mama is out of commission right now and can't play with her, but she IS enjoying sniffing her new brothers and sisters :)

I cant believe that our time with this precious litter is coming to an end. Already seven weeks old, they are only one week from a visit to the Vet and then ready for their forever homes :) They have been a joy to raise and we are so excited for their new families!!!! Six weeks and counting!

Our sweet little pups are six weeks already. The time is just flying by! They are getting bigger by the day and are more and more playful. Every time anyone walks by the kennel they all jump up on the side and wag their little tails wanting to be picked up :) This week they got their first taste of dog food and LOVED it! It was so much fun to watch them figure it out. These little ones will be ready to go home to their new families on April 12th. We will be taking them in that day for a thorough checkup by our vet and they will receive their first set of vaccinations and de-worming treatment. Cassie and Sofia's puppies all went to amazing homes and we don't have anymore puppies left at this time. We usually will have a litter in early spring as we don't breed our dogs more then once a year so that they can stay healthy and strong. We did keep one of our puppies from Sofia's litter and she is a cream named Leah. I'll post pictures of her soon! If you are interested in being put on a waiting list for next year's litter, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me! Even if you just want to talk dachshunds, I'd love to hear from you!

I can't believe that the puppies are 6 weeks already! They will be ready for their forever homes before we know it! It has been such a joy to watch each one as they discover the world around them. We took them outside to play and they were so excited! They played their little hearts out. When they came inside they were so tuckered out, they took quite a long nap!

Both litters have reached a fun milestone this week, puppy food! It is so fun to watch them figure it all out. All are growing well and developing sweet personalities. Cassie's babies are so big and fun now. They are playing with each other and think that Mama's ears are the best toy ever. They clamor for attention when you open up the kennel door and demand that they be held. What an amazing group!

I thought we should post another update on these little ones. They are growing like crazy! I can't believe how big they are getting already. I guess it's like kids, you can't keep them little forever :( Our whole family (and friends!!) are enjoying these babies. They are held so much, which is so good for them. I think we will all be sad when they are gone, but thankful for great homes for them.

Cassie's BEAUTIFUL litter of 4 girls was born in the middle of the night (a Sunday morning) resulting in wonderful, healthy puppies. Cassie was a trooper and took care of those babies like a champ. What a blessing, not to have worry about them! She made sure they were clean and fed!

We will have puppies again soon! We are SO excited!!! Cassie and Sofia are both pregnant and are due within 2-3 weeks. Poor things look uncomfortable, but are still sniffing around and doing okay. 8 Weeks Old and Ready for New Homes!

They had their shots and deworming meds yesterday and are doing fabulous! They are so much fun, playing and chasing their parents :). I got to cuddle them last night and they are SO soft and sweet that I didn't want to let them go! They love attention and when you come near their kennel they stand up and beg for a hug. Even their mama gets a lick as she passes by those darling babies. They are fully on their dry food now and thriving. They eat well and the doctor seemed pleased with their weights and health. They have AMAZING coats!

We are getting very attached, so these babies are really looking to find some loving homes. We are asking $400 a piece for them and if you have any questions, PLEASE don't hesitate to contact us. We want the best for these girls, and will hate to see them go, but know that they need real families that will love them forever.

These babies are just as cute as can be! They love to play with each other and are finally (and sadly) weaning from their mama. Both mama and babies are upset about this process, but they're hangin' in. We've put some yummy new treats in their bowls, REAL puppy food! They think that is CLOSE to being as good as mama, but not quite :) Both are still looking for good homes. I've been REALLY bad about updating them on here. We've been cuddling and oooh-ing and ahhh-ing over them, that we've forgotten they need their pictures up!!! So here those little princesses are...Since these babies are staying with my best bud and partner in crime, her little kiddos NAMED these babies..AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Now we keep them right? Oh well....Now we'll just be more attached (if that's possible, haha).

Yes, I'm late in getting this posted, but Molly had her babies 6-11-09. There are 2 girls, both healthy and enjoying plenty of "Mama time". They are getting all the milk they want :)

Molly is, once again, the perfect mama. She likes to stay near when guests come to see her little ones. She keeps the bed so clean, it's hard to come up with a reason to change it daily!

The puppies are growing steadily and starting to walk! They are so adorable. Wow, 2 girls, they are such a sweet pair :)

BIG NEWS-
All 10 puppies from both Cassie and Sofia's litters have found WONDERFUL homes. I was sad to see them leave, but as I tell their owner's, I feel like I'm just the caretaker, taking care of their puppies until they're ready for their REAL homes. I love my babies but am glad to know that they have better 1-on-1 attention then I could give them!

OKAY- NOW FOR THE BIG NEWS!!!! MOLLY and CODY are having puppies between the 6-10 of JUNE!!!!

Puppies are all ready to go home, sniff, sniff. They went to the vet yesterday, which made me love just a TINY bit less...Little miss Reagan pooped ALL over every other dog in the container, SO- We hurried into a room (luckily we were the last appt. of the day) and we put them in the sink and kinda sort washed them with hand soap. We tried to dry them with paper towels, but um, they were pretty wet. After we finished that another dog POOPED ON THE FLOOR. It smelled like, um, well you know, in that room. Then to add to the fun, as soon as that mess was cleaned up, another one pooped. That you Sofia's litter, I remember that day until the day I died, and it almost killed me by the smell anyway, haha.

Also- Our tiniest red man flew the coop this week...The kennel seems so empty without him :(

We had SO much fun watching them romp across the yard. They chased my girls and played in the dirt. The were in seventh heaven. We got our garden completed while the puppies watched over our shoulder to make sure we were doing it right. They were so cute and fun. I just love dachshunds...

Oh my gosh, these puppies have grown up so much! I was looking through all of their pictures and I'm just treasuring each and every one. These babies have brought so much joy (and noise, haha) to our home. Both litters have taken on a special place in our hearts. Dorie is running around right now as I type. She decided she needed to bust out of her kennel and run as fast as she could around the playroom...I also broke down and named one of my unsold...The multicolored with cream on his back...He's Sammy, oh, okay, and the other guy is Tiny. I just love these guys (and gals!)

PLEASE (for those of you who have picked a puppy from EITHER litter, and those who are thinking of doing so) read the FYIs in the top column to your right.

Okay- Now for the fun puppy stuff. This week (once it STOPS raining) we are going to take these babies out into the "real world". A few of them have experienced the outdoors as one of my daughters loves to pretend they are her babies, so they end up outside, bundled up in baskets...Hey, you won't be able to say these dogs aren't WELL socialized. All of them have exceptional personalities and they love to bark "hi, hold me please" as you pass their cage. I kinda think our puppies are the cutest out there :)

These little critters are all "puppy" now. They wrestle, they eat mama's food (naughty puppies!) they chew and shake their little toys I put in their kennel...They are as adorable and sweet as any litter could be. Today we might try investigating the "out of doors". I bet they'll have fun!

As you can see these babies are waking up! They've got those baby blues open (which will turn brown as they get older) and they are barking a bit (or growling) and we think it's the best. Cassie is a very protective mom and makes sure her neighbor, Sofia, doesn't mess with her babies (no, there's never a fight). They still cry and need to be moved to their mama, but some of them are learning to climb in the bed all by themselves! They are so cute.

These babies are walking, playing, and running around like little monkeys. They are SO much fun! I see them tugging on each other's ears and batting at each other with their tiny little paws. Speaking of paws, I just clipped 10 little doggie's nails the other day...Man, you'd thought I was killing them the way they cryed! Oh well, trying newer things may sometimes not be so fun. But we feel blessed by these 2 adorable litters and are completely LOVING watching them grow!

Cassie's puppies have turned 2 weeks old and are starting to crawl around and most of them have their eyes open. My girls love to dive into that puppy/mama kennel and love on those babies. They are not lacking in attention :) These 2 litters couldn't be better! - Oh and a side note, I couldn't tell for sure if Sofia's "cream" girl was really cream, but I had photographed her at night time with overhead orange-ish lights...I tried natural light, and you'll see what I got below!

Daily Dog Routine with LINKS!

I just wanted to let you know how I raise my dogs nutritionally and what brands/foods/supplements I feel are best. It's a DAILY routine that WE go through, but it is not something that I expect of future owners, just an idea of how I think my dogs are staying the most healthy :)

Items we use-
Merrick canned foods- I use all different flavors of these (my dogs LOVE them)
Merrick dry dog food-Turducken
Dental items-
Baby toothbrush-any brand will do, just look for "SOFT"
Wysong Dentatreat
Petrodex Dental Rinse
Petrodex Enzymatic toothpaste
Raw beef bones from your local butcher (must be RAW, not smoked etc. as they may splinter...NEVER use rawhides)
Supplements/vitamins
-Solid Gold Seameal
-Calcium tabs (for females, in heat, pregnant or nursing)
-Human Flax seed oil capsules (2 a day for in heat, pregnant or nursing dogs)
Grooming items
Ruff out spray (see directions for use)
Nature's Choice ready to use conditioner (you can get it in smaller sizes)
Nature's Choice HYPO "A" concentrate
Guillotine style clippers (although some prefer the dremmel style)
Double sided dog brush
Hair trimmer- for feet
Zap Ear Cleaner
Okay- Now that we have the ITEMS
Here's the routine-
In the AM
-I give all dogs (minus Cody) a calcium tab.
-I give all dogs a flaxseed capsule mixed in with a little Merrick canned food on a spoon
-I give all of the dogs a tablespoon (or so) of the Merrick canned food, then I sprinkle over it the Seameal and the Wysong Dentatreat
In the PM
-I give all of the females their 2nd dose of flaxseed oil mixed with a small amount of canned food
-I brush all of the dogs' teeth using the petrodex toothpaste
-After brushing I spray all of the dogs' teeth with the petrodex spray
-I spray them (entire body with the "Ruff out Spray" and brush them out with the double sided brush
On occasion
-I clip their nails (about every 2 weeks...Less often for cream dogs)
-I bathe them (about once or twice a month) with above shampoo and conditioner
-After each bath I repeat the "ruff out" spray and comb them out
-I trim their feet with the Hair trimmers about 1-2 times per month
-Usually after bathing I clean their ear with the Zap ear cleaner
Now you know that either I am completely neurotic, or that these dogs are better taken care of than most children, haha.

Sofia gave birth to 5 healthy little ones on March 22. They are all ADORABLE and thriving...We have 3 boys and 2 girls. All puppies are currently available! We can't wait to watch their colors turn!!! I will post more pics tonight.

So they are finally eating. They took to it like a duck to water :) They chow down as soon as their bowl hits the floor. When I go to scoop the leftovers back up I barely have anything to clean up! Growing, growing, growing! They are desperately trying to reach "mama's" food. I'm doing my dog tower of a bowl within a bowl on top of a bowl, haha, to try and keep them out...Looks like we may need to start letting them try some of that stuff soon!

Sofia is still feeding those babies SO well. We are so proud of her and the role she has taken as "mama" on her very first litter. All puppies are chubby and healthy and are on their way for their first exam/vaccines in about 3 weeks. We can't wait to show these babies off...They are just so darn cute!

All of these babies are just beautiful! We ended up with 3 boys and a girl. They are healthy and eating well. All have gained weight since birth and Sofia is an excellent mama. They arrived on 8-12, starting at 2:15 am. Sofia was amazing. We know one of these little guys are cream, but the rest are TBD. Check back for further updates!

Our little Sofia girl is PREGNANT!!! She should be due mid August. I took her in yesterday to find out, there are FOUR babies in there :) We are SO excited, as Sofia and Cody are AMAZING dogs and these will be the neatest puppies. I just love my dogs!

The beautiful babies have all found homes...I am happy and sad at the same time. I loved having puppies to just pick up and watch movies with...I have one left that has been sold, but will hang out here until June...So, I still have my last puppy "buddy" to spend time with. These last 2 litters were AMAZING. SO sweet and loving. Sofia is our next mama (potentially) and should be due to come into heat ANY time. We will update the blog when we know more.

We are down to only three of ten babies left! These three are so sweet and just wonderful dogs. I have spent a lot of time with them all. They have all been to the vet and had their shots, de-worming meds and checked out 100% healthy! I have their AKC papers in, and the vet paperwork so they are ready to go!!! I am SO thankful for the wonderful homes that my other sweet puppies have found :)

Molly's puppies have started opening their eyes (too cute!!!) and Cassie's little ones are really close to doing the same! The coloring on all of these babies are just BEAUTIFUL! Cassie has 4 black and tans, all with white chests, and one just gorgeous red baby girl. Molly has a whole litter of amazing shaded red puppies. All of these pups are doing really well, growing like weeds, and making all sorts of cute puppy noises :) I finally got a few "okay" pics. When puppies are this little, it's kind of like taking pictures of snakes moving through the grass...In other words, it's nearly impossible to get a good shot...So here's my best attempts, and there will be more to come!

All of the puppies are doing remarkably well! I've weighed them each day and all of them are gaining weight and "eating" like champs. Both Cassie and Molly are adapting well to their new litters and both girls looks like they never had puppies, haha. Well, Cassie ended up having her puppies right on the due date I came up with for her as well! In usual "Cassie fashion" we had puppies born in the middle of the night. Crazy dog! She ended up with 2 girls and 3 boys. All puppies are happy and healthy and I can't exactly tell yet, but most of her's look black and tan. Puppies are so fun, and cute :) Okay, now I really need to get on the ball and get pictures!!!

Molly's little ones have arrived and are all doing really well! Molly was a real trooper, and she took great care of each puppy that came. There were four boys and one girl, and all of them are lighter colored (no black and tans this time). We shall see what comes of their coloring :). Mama is doing well and I hope to post a picture of the new little family soon!

ELEVEN?!?

Well, I took both Molly and Cassie in today to see how many puppies we could expect via x-ray...Yeah, we will be busy (and so will those mamas!)!! If all goes as expected, there should be ELEVEN puppies! Molly is having 5 and Cassie is having six! No wonder those poor girls are so uncomfortable!

Anyway, the tentative due dates are, Molly, 3-11, and Cassie, 3-14. We shall see :)

We are HOPEFULLY, expecting 2 litters in mid-March. Molly was not to be bred during this last heat cycle, but I just had surgery and was unable to prevent the breeding, so she is one of the mothers this time around, as is Cassie. They are due, literally, a few days apart. These litters will be Cassie and Molly's last for the year, as I am giving them both a break during their next heat cycle. Sofia, however, should be next up, with a beautiful batch of creams in her future :)

Anyway, that's the latest news from the Salter Dachshund world. We will update as we know more!

For those of you keeping track of my darling little cream girl...Well, she just went in to heat!!! She won't be bred this cycle (she's too young and it's her first one) BUT that means in about 8-10 we could have some CREAM babies around here!!!
Poor girl, being in heat has to be a royal pain, but she's being a trooper, and so far Cody isn't being a pill about it all. Cassie is due to come in ANY time...She WILL be bred and her pups should be born (if all goes as planned) around February...

So that's the scoop here at Salter Dachshunds! Hope everyone's enjoying their holiday season :)

Yesterday the last 2 puppies from both litters were sold! I was a little sad after handing those last little guys over, but I know they will be just fine! Both litters were SO much fun! We won't be expecting another for about 6 months or so, and that will either be Sofia or Cassie or, hopefully, both. Molly will be taking a break from "motherhood" this next time around....We will update when our house is full of those adorable babies again!!!

These little guys (and gals!) have ALL been to the vet this past week! The vet said they were all 100% healthy (and adorable, haha). NONE of them cried when they got their shots (big kids!!) and they ate their deworming meds like champs :) They are just beautiful puppies with the best personalities EVER! Lots of spunk and sooo cuddly :)

These guys are 5 and 6 weeks old, and will be ready to go 9/22 (Cassie's litter) and 9/29 (Molly's litter). They are the cutest little things EVER!! It made me have an entirely new appreciation for black and tans...of course we've always liked the color, but now, wow...They are just gorgeous!!!

I meant to do this A LONG time ago...These babies of ours are growing up and Cassie's litter is almost 5 weeks old now!!! They are getting close to finding their new "forever homes". Molly's litter was born EXACTLY one week after Cassie's. Molly had 2 boys and a girl...ALL black and tan!

For those of you who have been trying to contact me through my hotmail account, I apologize!!! We have been crazy busy around here...camping, kids stuff...you name it. I WILL get back to you.

Cassie's litter has been vet checked already, and was A-OK. Our older 3 girls have been doting on these little ones since almost day one. I find these puppies in doll carriers, wrapped in infant blankets, and, well, wherever a small puppy can safely fit while in the arms of a 3, 6, and 9 year old!!! My crazy girls just adore these dogs. It's always sad to watch them go, but at the same time, exciting, knowing that they have a family who loves them!

Our lovely little Cassie girl gave birth to a litter of 4 gorgeous babies on 7/28 at 4:00 am. They are healthy and thriving. In this litter, there are 3 girls and 1 boy. Seems like Cody likes to throw those girls, as his litter with Molly had 4 girls in it! We are just thrilled and can't wait to watch them grow up. We are still awaiting colors, but are pretty sure we have quite a few black and tans in there. If you have ANY questions you can e-mail me @ saltermom@hotmail.com.

We will be having TWO litters available in the next few weeks. Cassie (a black and tan longhair dachshund) and Molly (see pics below) are BOTH expecting. Cassie is due at the end of this month and Molly is following her about a week later! We can't wait to see what these girls have for us! All dogs/puppies are AKC registered. The puppies WILL be vet checked and have all up to date shots and worming before leaving to their new homes. All puppies will bring with them, their own special toy that smells like home :)

We are down to our final puppy...It's our sweet little red and black girl. She's the cuddliest thing! She loves to crawl up around your neck and snuggle. We, of course have become attached to ALL of these little ones, as they are our FIRST litter and they are as cute as can be. They are sure getting their cuddle time in, as we are sadly aware that they will be leaving us for good here VERY soon! Some of them are already named! If you've purchased a puppy from us then you'll see your baby with it's name (or your name) in a picture below! For those who haven't yet picked a name, when you do, let us know! We like to start calling them by the names YOU have chosen :)

These are the VERY last 2 of our litter of 5...Our little male (the light red) and this little black and red female.

Today THREE of our little munchkins met their new mommy's and daddy's! We couldn't be happier :) They will stay here for 3.5 more weeks so they can grow and continue to socialize with their litter mates...We will be sad to see them go, but THRILLED that they found such wonderful homes!!!

Congratulations to Jill, Tanna, and Hannah and Jim...These are YOUR babies in order!

We are having SO much fun watching these little ones grow up! They went from "mouse" looking creatures to probably the most ADORABLE little animals we've EVER seen. They are so much fun to hold and cuddle, their feet barely have time to touch the floor! Mama still keeps a close eye on her babies. She has been SO good with them. We are often in awe of her. Cody gets in there a time or 2 to sniff them and give them a good "daddy kiss". He is the most gentle dog! Here you can see how they've grown!

We are THRILLED to announce the birth of Cody and Molly's VERY FIRST litter of beautiful babies. They arrived January 9th...Mama did GREAT, and all of the babies come out happy and healthy. Molly turned out to be an INCREDIBLE mama and has made our job effortless, as she cares for those babies whole-heartedly.

This is Cody, the DADDY!...He's a 1 year old long-haired mini-dachshund. His daddy is an AKC champion the world over. He even made it to WESTMINSTER!!! Cody just received his first show point this summer and is on his way to his own championship! Cody's parents were Snowman, a mini-longhaired CREAM and Mitzi Rose, a mini-longhaired black and tan, who recently became a FIELD champ, yay MITZI!

Meet Molly, the MAMA!...She's a one year old long-haired mini-dachshund. Her parents are Scooby, a gorgeous black and tan mini dappled long-haired male, and Sugar, a red mini DOUBLE-DAPPLE long-haired female.
